I’ve been cooking since I was 14 years old, starting when my mother went back to work full time. She would take something out of the freezer before she left for work in the morning and would call me when I got home from school to tell me what to do with it. I learned how to make meatloaf, meatballs, roast chicken, and other basics this way. I’ve been married now for 18 years, have two young children of my own, and I continue to think of cooking for them as an act of love. We sit together for a family meal most nights, and my husband and children have gamely tried everything I’ve put in front of them!
I’m not a trained chef, and most of the food I post has its origins in a recipe I’ve found in a cookbook, magazine, or somewhere online. Between the demands of a full-time job and my active family I don’t have much time for creating my own recipes… maybe someday.What I will tell you is that if a recipe is posted here, that means I’ve cooked it (probably more than once) and that our family has enjoyed eating it, and I’ve credited it properly! My focus is on using the freshest local (and organic where possible) ingredients I can find. Over the past several years I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know some wonderful local farmers, and many of their products are featured here.
As my friends and family know, I love food. I’m constantly thinking about it, cooking it, and eating it! So, while you won’t find the most beautiful food photography on this site – most of my pictures were probably snapped with my iPhone – what you will find is your average family of four enthusiastically enjoying some amazing food! Dinner doesn’t have to be mundane… join me as I try and elevate the family meal into something more than just food on a plate! Your family will thank you!
